Ninja on Japanese Rooftop

I was thinking of making something Xmas related, but I wanted to do something ninja too. In the end I ended up drawing something ninja, but I guess you can say I took the snow from the Christmas theme. Too bad I can only draw stick men xD

Vali The Leader (Happy Christmas!)

Hey everyone, I have just finished a character concept and thaught to share it with you - but since it's Christmas time I want to be generous. Just a small gift from me! I wanted to show and help you (especially you beginners) how I did this painting from start to finish. It's always nice to see different approaches. I have written the most valuable information and my tips in the WIP. Also I want to give you something more -- I have uploaded also 2 underpaintings I did that I use sometimes either to get some texture, or to start off the painting. One tip I can give you if you don't know how to use them is to tweak their size and angle, sharpen them, desaturate them, change the Hue & Saturation and adjust the Levels. ;)

Oh, just one last gift, I have also uploaded my color palette. It's quite similar to Xia's but I have added some things that I find quite useful while I'm painting. Hope you find it useful as well.

Let me guys know what you think, especially you my brother Xia! Hope you see some more improvement. Your feedback helps me and motivates me a LOT! :)

Peace

Your opinion:

Ok everyone, we got something going around for a while now
and we came to the point that we would like your help.

The community has been around for some time now and has
been growing ever since. We had a slight spin off with a
new platform, but we ended back up here.

Of course the Blogspot site works fine, we know and love it.
(till a certain extend) but we find it is time to get our
stuff together and start looking for something better.

Specially since we hit the 100 member cap of Blogspot.
We drafted some ambitious plans but the whole thing
still needs a name or domain name (the www. * .com/.org what ever).

So for this we would like your opinion. Lets us know what
you think would be a suitable name and post it in the comment.

After a while I'll gather the whole thing and we can take a poll.

Ok, let me know what you think!

School Work

This is a concept I did for school. We need it to make it slowly loop into itself so I had to make the far left match with the far right.

Here are some more I did pretty rough, as I needed for a western animation.

Finally this is a piece I did where we had to combine Art, Design and Film into one painting.

ps. I'll try to give my share tomorrow for the Christmas time. Just a small present to the community... I'm workin on it :)

Peace!

A simple trace in Illustrator again with the Mesh Tool.
I would like to have this one actually tailer made one day.

I clocked this one and the basic Mesh was 1:20.
The colouring was 1:05. Total of 2:25.

If I have some more time, I'll add the other sides.

Some Personal Studies

Hey everyone, it's been a while now. I was quite busy with school work (and still am!). I thaught to share with you some personal work I did a while back. I will try to post some school work I did and some personal stuff soon.

Thanks and wish you all the very best with your art!

Kamikaze Allstars

Well here is one I had laying around from when I just got back from Lombok:

Also made in Illustrator, but not with the Mesh tool obviously.
~
So I came up with this one after I came back from Gili Trawagan.
(there are 3 small islands N-W of Lombok, called the Gili's)
Where I stayed at a Dive Center where one of my friends is a
instructor. A DiveMaster there had a t-shirt with something from
Monkey Magic or something, didn't know it. But it had a Asian guy
on it dressed up and Allstars above it.

I thought it was a Kamikaze Pilot, but he later explained what it
was. But I found the idea of Kamikaze Allstars also rather appealing,
specially on a t-shirt the way that one was. So for now it ended
up like this.

Tomb Raider - Lara Croft

Ok so some of you might still remember the Dragon I posted some time ago.

Now here is the actual project I was working on:

This one is made exclusively using Illustrator. Mainly the Mesh Tool.
No Photoshop or Fireworks.

Here is the Vector view of the previous image.

If I ever get the time I might try to put together a tutorial. Also I should note
that this doesn't fall under anything with "speed".

Is there a draw back from painting in greyscale? (examples included)

Hi,

I thought I'd bring up an interesting issue here.

Recentely, I have been painting in grey-scale and it's been so great, and it's great for getting realistic look and depth to my paintings, however, I really do missing just messing about in colour and painting in colour.

And I've realised when I start to colour my grey-paintings, I'm now so fed up of seeing everything in grey-scale...

It was so refreshing to pick colours in PS and start messing about with colours, and then I realized, have I been missing something?

I went through my greyscale-to-colour pictures and realised, despite the values being correct (sometimes) I was missing that vibrant, full colour look.

So here's something I did - I took a few pictures/paintings that inspired me from some of the best artists on here, turned them in grey-scale and then tried to paint over them, I didn't do it so well but I think it did illustrate my point - am I missing something?

It's hard to see what you're doing with colour, mixing and blending wise, it just even seems that one streak of colour would do the job, so I was wondering if you guys have thought about this, and whether you have seen a difference, and also - what exactly are you doing? Maybe I'm missing something...

Now I'm confused whether to stick to correct-greyscale paintings, or just have fun in colour but it looks messy/uncorrect.

I can't post the comparasion pictures of the paintings I painted over to achieve the same look as the original - but it's something you can try with your favourite paintings, but here's a quick example that I did in a few minutes ..
