great i appear to be going backwards
I took the plunge and bought a wacom cintiq, partly because of my love of computers and mostly because i have the time now the children have grown up to start drawing again. However, i am not finding it a pleasant experience! Each step forward appears to be followed by 30 steps backwards. Presently I am sitting here sobbing, after trying some of the tutorials i downloaded from this site i realise just how difficult it is to get to grips with using a wacom. I am enjoying it though, when not sobbing into my keyboard.

Another Done Recently
No hard lines in this one but you can see what I was talking about in my last post about muddy colors between the dark area and the background. I did this with 2 layers... Using the tracing paper feature, I traced a photo then after painting I deleted my line drawing layer.
I guess my biggest problem is keeping the edges sharp during the smoothing/blending stage. Once again, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Greenman
Okay... Here's one I did a few months ago. Let me go ahead and make a self-critique.
btw... I have had no formal training nor do I know correct terminology when dealing with digital art nor traditional media. So please be a little forgiving if I unintentionally say something stupid.
1st thing I had issue with on this piece is the lines. I've been a tattoo artist for 10 years and smooth lines were a MUST but I'm having a really hard time getting my lines to be smooth and not "shakey." I was using the scratchboard pen tool here. I've since switched to pencil which I have better control over but sometimes I don't want that sketchy look than the pencils give. I wanted good solid smooth lines to give this piece the look of a precision carving but couldn't pull it off.
2nd problem I had was that I did this piece on multiple layers. I used the airbrush tool for coloring and then used the blender tool to try and gradiate the colors. I kept picking up white from the edges and ended up with a mess of muddy color. I haven't found a tutorial that I can understand exactly what tools are being used in the coloring prcess. I've read about using masks to quickly color "cartoonish" pieces like this one but I don't understand how to actually create and use them. If someone would be so kind as to point me in the direction of some easy to understand guide, I would be greatly appreciative.

I'm back!!!
Hey, guys! i haven't been on this blog for ages but here i am! this is something i did quite a while ago. Yes, it looks like a rip-off of Kagaya's stuff but that's the style i was trying to copy. enjoy!
Paint-over
So my friend Ty said I should "push it further," meaning I wasn't using the full value range in the previous sketch. I recalibrated my monitor and did so, and then realized it was an opportunity to bring it to color.
I think this is my first relatively successful attempt at transitioning from value to color.
Color Picker problem..... help me out!
Hey everybody, I just need your help today... I was working on an image and all of a sudden I have noticed that when I picked the color (ALT), it changed the background color not the foreground. I tried to restart Photoshop but dope, still there! This thing really doesn't let you work smoothly as I have to keep constantly changing the foreground with the background. Any help how can I resolve this problem??? I need to produce more art!!!
This is something I did lately ( just to post a painting not just the question).
(Xia, if you as well have an idea, pls let me know)
