Is there a draw back from painting in greyscale? (examples included)
Hi,
I thought I'd bring up an interesting issue here.
Recentely, I have been painting in grey-scale and it's been so great, and it's great for getting realistic look and depth to my paintings, however, I really do missing just messing about in colour and painting in colour.
And I've realised when I start to colour my grey-paintings, I'm now so fed up of seeing everything in grey-scale...
It was so refreshing to pick colours in PS and start messing about with colours, and then I realized, have I been missing something?
I went through my greyscale-to-colour pictures and realised, despite the values being correct (sometimes) I was missing that vibrant, full colour look.
So here's something I did - I took a few pictures/paintings that inspired me from some of the best artists on here, turned them in grey-scale and then tried to paint over them, I didn't do it so well but I think it did illustrate my point - am I missing something?
It's hard to see what you're doing with colour, mixing and blending wise, it just even seems that one streak of colour would do the job, so I was wondering if you guys have thought about this, and whether you have seen a difference, and also - what exactly are you doing? Maybe I'm missing something...
Now I'm confused whether to stick to correct-greyscale paintings, or just have fun in colour but it looks messy/uncorrect.
I can't post the comparasion pictures of the paintings I painted over to achieve the same look as the original - but it's something you can try with your favourite paintings, but here's a quick example that I did in a few minutes ..

Walking the Dog
"Are you going out with the dog again?", asks grandma.
"Yes, mama. Just a short while.", replied San San
"Don't you know what time is it? Its already so late! You are always walking the dog so late..Why?!", said Grandma, raising her voice.
"Well......", San San don't know how to reply.
"Walking the dog? Is this even a dog?"
San San had tried to take Mikey out for a walk in the afternoon, but mikey got this nasty habit of gulping up people along the way. Although it was cute initially, but its getting a little out of hand.
Most recently, Mikey even ate her boyfriends...
"I'll be back soon." San San finally replied.

Slightly larger version here.
Heart in the City
Hi guys, my name is joshua and I'm from Singapore. I'm very happy to be apart of this community. Thanks to Knuckles930 for the approval to post stuffs here! Also IDrawGirls.com is an incredibly helpful site.
Hope to learn lots from you guys and if there's anything I can contribute, that will be great!
So here goes my first post.
Its a concept I thought of. In the not so far distant future, humans have depleted every known natural resources we could find. As a result, the need to find a source goes underway.. The answer lies in creating a powerful andriod which has the capabilities to power up an entire city.
"The Lark City is no ordinary city, while other human habitation of like are powered by natural resources. This city is solely powered by an uncanny android girl - Nei. Many have gone to catch a glimps of her, she's lies at the heart..."

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've posted anything here, and I really miss this board. There's some very solid art here, and like to get involved in this community. So, I'm gonna try to post my work and I'm hoping for some good critiques. :D
These are 3/8 of a series of oil paintings done about hands. Each is done in a different way, to try to learn painting techniques. Oh yeah, I guess I should mention that I'm in university for art. I plan to post the rest of the series, so I'll make sure to do that when I get them photographed.
The top one was painted only using complimentary grays. This means that all of the colors in this painting were derived from only one hue of blue and one hue of orange (along with black and white for rendering). Pretty cool imo. The second was done only using green, and any tints of green that we wished to use. There was supposed to be 12+ greens, I didn't bother to count how many I actually achieved. The last was done as an impasto, which is only painting with a palette knife.
I'm really starting to love oil painting, and I hope you guys enjoy these pieces!
Mermaid - tip on personal works.
Hey, just to keep up with the "idrawgirls" theme. Something I've been working on and off after school work-- this is how much I love art, after 8 hrs at school (drawing and stuff), once home, I work on my personal projects. Hope you community do the same - we all started art working on our personal projects, and I believe that we shall NeveR quit from doing them. They are what have brought us to where we are now and we shall keep on doing personal works.... hope you Xia agree with me!
Peace.

Diaries of a DiveMaster - Lombok '09
And now the things we all love. At least I do.
Here are the underwater photos from Lombok. These photos where
taken in Sekotong, Belongas and a few in Bali at Manta Point and
Chandi Desa.
As before these photos are for the community, use them for
inspiration or maybe to get you motivated to sign up for an
PADI Open Water Diver Course, next time you go to a tropical
destination.
I should note that I received these photos from different people
during my time in Lombok. Please use them for you own projects, but
don't spread them further. ;)
Thanks.
Any questions of the things on the photos, post them in the comments
and I'll see what I can say.
*Photos are falling off again.
Peace!
