Life Drawing: now in color!

This is my first post. I shouldn't let you guys have all the fun... =) I tried life painting digitally for the first time, which allowed me to get some much-needed practice with color and how it relates to value/form.

The first pose was 45 minutes, and the second one about 20 minutes. I used Painter X and my latop/wacom tablet.

As you can see the color temperatures and tonal ranges are quite different between the two, despite being from the same scene. I started with an arbitrary background color for each and focused on judging the relative color values and temperatures. I'm not sure if that's how real painters do it, but at least it doesn't fail the squint test...

Beowulf

Here's a drawing of good ol' Beowulf, the fabled monster slayer of Danish lore. It took me about 2 hrs, any advice or opinions that anyone is willing to give would be much appreciated.

Have a Good One,

Hi! I'm New!

Hi, my name's Nick Fechter and I'm a seventeen-year-old student who attends Neville High School. I've been striving greatly to improve my talent in art ever since I've asked the Editor of my school newspaper if I could create a comic strip. The top piece of art is a portrait I did of my English teacher, and the bottom one is an illustration of Edgar Allen Poe's poem "The Raven" that I did for a poetry project. I also have a webcomic (of sorts) online which you can visit by clicking the following link:http://nevilleandcompanycomics.blogspot.com/I'm open to any advice, suggestions, or commentary that your willing to provide. My hope is to one day to become as successful and talented as all of you :)

All the Best,

Nick Fechter

Speedpaint spidertank

Here is a following tutorial to my spider robot. Yep I know it is not perfect but I am just messing around with the new screen record software. LOL first time I render out it was 21gb big but I manage to crank it down to 60mb^^And now I can further more produce loads of tutorials muhahahaha!! Oh man I need to get some sleep I havent slept in 2 days.

Good vs. Evil

The good fights evil in an epic scenery.

I entered this for the competition at Deviant Art and I liked how this turned out. I'm trying to improve on every painting I do. The picture is entirely painted except for the small windows and stuff which are parts of photos.

I used Photoshop only and took a me a bit more than 3 hours to paint.

Hope you like it :)

(my DA account is pokepetter.deviantart.com if you want know but I don't check i too often.)

The Professions

Hello all,

Been awhile since i posted anything here, sorry about that, i was bz playing GW =p

So here is a colored sketch i did of my characters from Guild Wars, i have only 8 professions atm, but maybe i'll add the other 2 profession later(paragon|elementalist).

Anyway, as you can see, the color pallettes are strongly based from the in-game skill colors of the professions, i just love the way the skill icons looked in the game, so i had to bring some of that into the sketch  :)

Let me know what you guys think ^^

Sword Fighter

Just a quick character I did. It started out as a sketch, then did the line work in a vector program and exported to PSD, then did the coloring in PS. Kind of a new technique for me. I used to do everything vector but trying to do more with my sketches and painting and coloring in photoshop.

Quicky one - Female Fighter

Here is a quick sketch I did today... I want to minimize the time and give a good concept! Any good tips (especially from concept artists) are more then welcome! The harderst thing is to establish the right value (drawing the character doesn't take me that much).

Peace!

Black Cat mini comic

Here is a little mini comic that I did tonight. It was drawn by hand, then inked in comicswork, and lettered in illustrator. Its a bit different from the usual work here. but I thought a lot of you would get a kick out of it. Enjoy!

6h paint with no ref

And I'm off.

Like I noted before, starting tomorrow, I will be off for half a year
to Lombok. While I'm very happy going there (just like when I went to
Egypt), the internet connection there might be questionable.

So until I get back, I hope you all be nice here and won't give
Xia a hard time. For posting I'll try to put something up when I
can, but nothing promised.

For those who are interested, I made a site which I will use as my
own blog. Made to be light and easy to load. I heard that it can take
up to 15min at an internet café there to open Hotmail.

So if I can I'll keep track at De Volkeren Krant.

You can check the column for some useful links about Lombok and the
About page if you want to know more about DVK it self.

So, I wish you all the best and a great summer!

ps, for the invitations, I've redirected the contact page to Xia.

Female Figure Drawing 1

Here today I just started doing some female figure drawing... rather then doing my classical creatures and stuff! Obviously for the purpose that this community is for the public I added some black boxes--- to cover.

I hope that you like it and feel free to suggest me anything that will help me improve...

1. Here is the full body:
2. Originally I wanted to keep my focal point on the face but I fell in the trap of getting into a bit of detail... If you know any good methods on how I can make loose body to keep the main point on the head, feel free to post! Xia usually does this and I really like it! :)

Thanks!

Not Finished Portrait

This is a portrait of my sisters husband. Can anyone give me some hint, how I can give good color values to it? Airbrush with low opacity and floating?

Really Cool Software: Alchemy

Hi. I want to tell you about this awesome software called Alchemy. You might already have heard of it. Here's what they say at their web page:

"Alchemy is an open drawing project aimed at exploring how we can sketch, draw, and create on computers in new ways. Alchemy isn’t software for creating finished artwork, but rather a sketching environment that focuses on the absolute initial stage of the creation process. Experimental in nature, Alchemy lets you brainstorm visually to explore an expanded range of ideas and possibilities in a serendipitous way. "

Andrew Jones is using this program a lot and have affected the development quite a bit. I also know that Barontieri is using it a bit. I've been using this software since version 5 I think. It's good for generating ideas. Look at the forum and the gallery on their web page and you'll see what I mean.
